I started Body Illustrations in 1991, after being taught by Dale Dixon. I spent approximately 2 years in an apprentice type situation before opening my shop. Ever since, I have spent every one of my years trying to better myself and my artwork. Also, I have switched to an air driven tattoo machine. What does that mean for you? Less time under the needle, considerably less painful, less noise, the air driven machine doesn't damage the skin as much as electric machines because of a smoother, and more constant needle to skin contact adding an overall better look.

I believe that doing tattoo's is like any other business, the customer is always right. I do not believe that I or any artist should tell you what you want, rather a good artist will listen to what you want and give suggestions on how it could be better. In my experience, a lot of people believe they should value their tattooist on what he/she charges, rather than the worth of what he/she charges for work. My only suggestion is to check the work, get proof of experience, then ask the price. You will always get better work that way.

I have recently lost my apprentice, so I am on the lookout for someone with at least one year of experience. The person I am looking for must be DEPENDABLE, HONEST, AND DEDICATED TO THE ART AND WORLD OF TATTOOING. (NO drug addicts, or practicing alcoholics need apply!) So to make it clear, this is not a part time gig nor something you do in your spare time. Tattooing as a career is a way of life and requires a lot of dedication and sacrifice. An eligible apprentice should have his/her own machines and be knowledgeable in their operation. Depending on experience and drive, these factors will decide how long apprenticeship is necessary.
