High Priestess Piercing
High Priestess Piercing 161 NE Garden Valley Roseburg Oregon 541-673-2727

High Priestess Piercing & Tattoo is a full range professional body piercing studio. From basic earlobe piercings to complex piercing projects, we are both talented and experienced in all facets of body piercing. We’re locally owned and operated. Our Downtown Eugene piercing-only studio has been open since April 1st, 1996. Our Corvallis location opened in September of 2001, the Eugene Campus location in October of 2004, and finally Roseburg in November of 2007. Combined we have well over seventy years professional body piercing experience! High Priestess consists of four of only seven shops within Oregon that has members of The Association of Professional Piercers (APP). In fact all twelve of our body piercers are APP members in addition to being licensed by the Oregon State Health Licensing Office. Every one of our employees is trained and certified in up to date first-aid, CPR, and blood-borne pathogens by the American Red Cross.

As members of The Association of Professional Piercers (APP) you can expect our studios to uphold a higher set of standards than what the state requires. We carry only the best body jewelry and have all the newest industry specific information about the safest/cleanest piercing techniques and practices. We use autoclave sterilization with weekly* spore testing. Our aftercare practices have been tried and tested by literally tens of thousands of clients. Our employees not only attend extended learning classes at the annual APP conference, but we’ve taught several classes as well.

* Most studios only do a monthly or even quarterly test to insure that their autoclave is properly sterilizing their tools and equipment. This potentially means it could be several months before they know their sterilizer might have exposed their clients to blood-borne pathogens. Our large tool and jewelry stocks, weekly testing, and operator-error proof Ritter M9 Autoclaves all but remove the likeliness of this happening within our studios.

Those of us at High Priestess feel that our role within the local community is very important. We are constantly striving to bring all the newest and safest techniques to our clients. We educate them in proper aftercare methods and appropriate body jewelry materials. We attend many local events to further educate the public into making safe, responsible, and educated decisions when choosing where to get their body-art. The emphasis is that you don’t necessarily have to go to our studios to get your work done, but make sure when you do choose where to go, you’re not putting your health and safety at risk. We also do orientation presentations to the new students at the local universities as additional public outreach.
In 2009 alone High Priestess donated over ten thousand dollars to local charities and events!
Those of us within the High Priestess family consider body modifications to represent a legitimate art-form, a state of mind, even a way of life. It is perhaps mankind’s oldest form of self expressionism. It has been a right of passage for countless cultures and indigenous tribes as long as time can tell. You could call us a dedicated tribe of modern day primitives, here to bring this ancient art-form into a respected position within our present world.

In 2004 we, at High Priestess, expanded our body modification services with the addition of some of the most talented, experienced and varied tattoo artists on the West Coast. Our hand picked artists come from all across the country with over 45 years experience on the artistis' side of the tattoo needles.

It is easy to be overwhelmed when looking at different tattoo artist’s portfolios. These are some easy things to look for when determining if the artist is competent.

Are the lines clear and clean?
Do the lines end smoothly, and are any points sharp and pointy, not wobbly?
If there is black does it appear smooth, even, and dark throughout?
If there is color, is it bright, smooth, rich, and consistent, NOT patchy?
Do colors blend smoothly into each other where there is soft lighting, and do the edges look crisp where there is high contrast? Good tattoos have contrast to make them stay visible and readable over time.
Does the design as a whole flow well with the form of the body? Good tattoos should follow the muscle structure and “flatter the form.”
Is the image understandable and clear, or do you have to ask what it is?
Do the edges of the tattoo end in a pleasing way? Or are they ragged and uneven?
Would you wear it? Art is, after all, a matter of taste.
A portfolio represents an artist’s VERY BEST work. You should never see lines which are scraggly, “blown-out,” blobbed, colors that are washed out unintentionally or blotchy, or that have any misspelled words. Sometimes artists will have a few pieces that they’re still working on. Make sure that the vast majority of the tattoos are completed pieces. Remember that the portfolio is the BEST the artist can do, so if the work in it is not very good, or not appealing to you, find a different artist! Likewise if an artist frightens you, won't answer questions about the process, or tell you how to be more comfortable, find a different artist. There are many artists who are talented AND considerate of your comfort.

Make an informed decision when choosing your body art!
