If ever there were a group of people with an undying devotion to love, it's celebrities, who fall so deeply for each other that a marriage certificate is often not enough to signal their commitment. Sometimes the only thing that will sufficiently demonstrate a cosmic celebrity bond is an indelible mark that won't wash away with time. Celebs need ink on skin to make sure they stick it out through thick and thin, richer and poorer, good reviews and bad, etc.

There are a lot of celebrity couples with matching tattoos but we've narrowed it down to the eight most meaningful. You can bet these couples are going the distance. Unless, of course, they've already booked an appointment with the laser surgeon.

Lindsay Lohan and Sam Ronson

Back in 2008, when lady love was still in the air, former actress/jailbird Lindsay Lohan and her DJ pal Samantha Ronson got tiny black hearts on their left hands. Because there's nothing that expresses love more deeply than admitting one's heart is small and black.
Katy Perry and Russell Brand

California Gurl Katy Perry and Surrealist Swordsman Russell Brand are set to be married this year, despite the warnings of the wisest man in music, Morrissey. They both have tattoos on their inner right arms of the Sanskrit saying Anuugacchati Pravaha, meaning "go with the flow." Considering both have moved away from previously damaging obsessions (Brand and sex, Perry and Christianity), it'll be good to remember this if either one reverts.
Nikki Sixx and Kat Von D

When one half of a couple is a tattoo artist and the other is a hair metal star from the '80s, skin art is to be expected. What's less clear is what the hell is going on here. Sixx and Von D got matching tats of a man in a top hat with a red shirt, boots, breeches and a cane. What could it mean? Is it a Victorian carny or a Brooklyn hipster? Whatever it is, it didn't help these two stay together. They're each now hunting for a new human canvas.
Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom

Khloe "Not Kim" Kardashian and Lamar "Not Kobe" Odom got each other's initials tattooed on their hands. As Kardashian said, "When we were at dinner, I just knew I wanted a tattoo for Lamar in the web of my hand." While this may not be what most people think at dinner, one thing is for sure: These tats are certainly more permanent than Odom's ability to knock down an 18-foot jumper. Sports burn!

Britney Spears and Kevin Federline

The greatest love story of the decade has been, without a doubt, Britney Spears and Kevin "Popozao" Federline. When the love was strong, Britney got a pair of pink dice on her left wrist to match K-Fed's blue dice on his right. While they may not be together anymore, one can hope the next roll of the dice will bring them both back stronger than ever. If the two of them can't last, what hope do the rest of us have?

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon

Despite the 10-year age difference, Carey and Cannon have actually been going strong for some time. It may have something to do with the tattoos: He's got "Mariah" on his shoulders and she's got "Mrs. Cannon" on her lower back. There are even rumors that she's pregnant now. We're hoping the baby gets a tattoo that matches too.

Rihanna and Chris Brown

A couple years ago, when Rihanna and Chris Brown were still in love, they both got little star tattoos behind their ears. It seemed so lovely and then ... as we all know, it didn't end well between them. At least they've got permanent reminders about the way things were.
Avril Lavigne and Brody Jenner

If you've been under a rock for the past few months and were still wondering why Brody kept saying a "girlfriend" was keeping him from riding off with Kristin Cavallari on the "Hills" finale, it's true: He has a girlfriend. And that girlfriend is mall-punk Avril Lavigne. She and Jenner have gotten tats of each other's names and matching lighting bolts. We're assuming that's because love will hit you like lightning and disappear just as fast.
