Joe Wittenberg's unusual marriage proposal may have given him a leg up on getting "yes" for an answer.

The tattoo artist inked the question on his own lower leg, got down on one knee in front of his girlfriend, and simply rolled up his pants so that she could see the tattoo.

"He scored some points for putting my name on him for sure," said Rachel Streeter, according to Sandiego6.com.

How did the veteran tattoo artist - he’s been designing tattoos for nine years - know how to write on himself?

"I made a stencil and just followed it along," said Wittenberg, who didn’t dwell on what might have happened if his girlfriend turned him down.

So far, there’s no official date for a ceremony for the California couple, who got engaged on Mother’s Day and who have a 6-month-old boy, Liam. And when Liam wants to know how his dad proposed to his mom, he won’t have to look very far to see just how that proposal was worded.
