Ancient Art Tattoo Studio has been serving Virginia’s Tidewater area for over 30 years. With a background as an accomplished tattoo artist, worldwide tattoo flash designer and supplier, and industry visionary, founder J.D. Crowe has been a major force in molding the world of tattooing into what it has become today. Along with partner and long-time friend Dennis Dwyer (owner of Ancient Art Tattoo in Tucson, Arizona), J.D. Crowe formed Tattoo Tour—a national tattoo convention business dedicated to educating the tattoo community about the importance of keeping a safe and professional working environment. For years, these highly successful conventions were held in major cities across the U.S. including Miami, San Francisco, Anaheim, San Diego, and Chicago and were the largest and classiest of their kind. Each Tattoo Tour show exuded an energy and excitement that drew renowned tattoo artists from around the world to reunite under one roof while lines of attendees anxiously waited outside for the doors to open. No matter how large the events became, J.D. Crowe and Dennis Dwyer never forgot the Tour’s mission—to educate the artists and the general public for a healthier tattoo industry. Eventually, J.D. Crowe and Dennis Dwyer’s recipe for their successful Tattoo Tour conventions grew to become the foundation of modern day tattoo convention formats.

J.D. Crowe still continues to fulfill his life-long commitment for a healthier tattoo industry. All four of his Ancient Art Tattoo Studio locations across Hampton Roads (Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Hampton and Yorktown) hire fully licensed tattoo artists who are capable of producing high quality tattoo designs while providing healthy and sterile working environments.
